The Republic of North Macedonia was spared the inter-ethnic violence that raged elsewhere in the Balkans following the break-up of Yugoslavia in the early 1990s, but came close to civil war a decade after independence (BBC, 2019).
The Republic of North Macedonia is an upper middle-income country that has made great strides in reforming its economy over the last decade. More efforts are still needed to generate economic growth and improve living standards for all (World Bank, 2020).
