Northern Ireland Executive

Northern Ireland Executive

GCRF funding is administered to Northern Ireland Higher Education Institutions to support research on global challenges.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy allocates GCRF funding to the four UK Higher Education Funding Councils for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland:

  • Research England: part of UKRI
  • Department for the Economy Northern Ireland (DfENI)
  • Scottish Funding Council (SFC)
  • Higher Education Funding Council Wales (HEFCW)

These administrations in turn allocate GCRF funding to universities, based on the overall quality of their research and GCRF strategies. All the devolved administrations provide funding from GCRF to support research and associated activities that address the challenges faced by developing countries.
